Providing comprehensive and skilled surgical services for pets' optimal well-being.
As a 24-hour hospital, we can perform a wide variety of urgent surgical procedures. Our team of veterinarians perform emergency surgeries, we do not perform routine surgeries such as spays, neuters, dentals and lump removals. We also have an extensive network of board certified veterinary surgeons who we can refer patients to for more complex operations. Give us a call at 905-576-3031 for more details.
Yes, although we would appreciate you calling us while on your way to our hospital. This way, we can make the necessary accommodations for your pet’s unique situation. This will also allow us to give you instructions to minimize their pain or injury. For example, your pet may need to be positioned, carried, or transported in a certain way to lessen damage from a wound.
Absolutely. Anesthesia is needed even for procedures like dental cleanings. This is not only to prevent them from feeling any pain, but also to prevent them from experiencing unnecessary stress. Being in a bright operating room, surrounded by machines, sharp tools and unfamiliar faces can be traumatic for even the calmest furry friend.
Rest assured we take precautions to ensure your pet receives a safe anesthetic. We perform a physical exam and pre-anesthetic blood testing before surgery to determine if they are a good candidate for anesthesia, and the exact amount they will need. While our surgeons are working on your pet, one of our registered veterinary technicians focuses solely on monitoring your pet during surgery by checking their breathing, blood pressure and other vitals. We will also provide your pet with pain medication during recovery. If your pet requires rehab post-surgery your primary veterinarian can assist you with setting up an appointment at a rehab facility near you.
If your pet had to undergo surgery for an orthopedic problem or injury, rehab is typically a key part of their recovery process. Depending on the case, the vet may recommend massages, hydrotherapy, laser therapy, acupuncture and other treatments to help speed up the healing process and maximise the results of the surgery. If rehab is recommended for your pet after their surgery, your primary veterinarian will need to refer you to these services.
